Date: 05/08/2010

A recent article in The Economist entitled "Rough Justice in America" highlighted the sorts of acts people in the United States are being put behind bars for.  To name but one: a 65 year old Texan man was sent to prison for having mixed up the papers on imported orchids.  On top of the fact that certain laws are so complex and vague, many states have mandatory sentences and "three strikes" laws which were orginally intended for serious habitual offenders but are now being applied to lesser criminals.  Please follow this link for the full article.
