Monthly Labour Market Figures Published

Date: 16/02/2011

The European Union remains vulnerable to persistent unemployment, new labour market data has revealed. However, there are signs the market has stabilised and in certain countries there has been a recovery.
The key points from the data:
·         The EU unemployment rate has stabilised, remaining unchanged at 9.6% since February 2010.
·         However, unemployment remains higher than a year ago in all but nine member states. Germany remains an exception, and unemployment is at its lowest level since September 1992.
·         Youth employment is still rising. After decreasing between May and August in 2010, over November it began to pick up once more. In that month, youth unemployment reached its highest level since the beginning of the crisis at 21% in the EU. Youth unemployment is up 35% compared to spring 2008.
